With all the attention CBD has been getting, it’s easy to find information on all its benefits — but is there a downside? Does CBD have any side effects?
Even here at Ministry of Hemp, we’ve focused a lot on exploring the benefits of CBD oil and the endocannabinoid system over the past few months. Yet, so much has been written about how CBD is helping people that we wanted to take a look at its potential drawbacks too.
To create this article, we looked at both scientific research and anecdotal reports from CBD users. You can’t overdose on CBD and, from our in-depth research, the side effects of CBD oil are usually minor, and, for most people, the benefits far outweigh the rare reports of discomfort.

Overall, our research suggests that, just as with any health supplement, the quality and source of your CBD oil can make a big difference when it comes to side effects. In fact, many unpleasant experiences from CBD reported by consumers could be due to impurities or poor quality CBD oil, as we’ll discuss later in this article.
If you feel unpleasant effects from any supplement, it’s better to take a break and, when in doubt, consult your doctor. Keep reading to learn more about the safety of CBD, and read about some common side effects and potential drug interactions.
Is CBD safe? The World Health Organization Says Yes
It’s worth noting that even psychoactive cannabis — what’s often called “marijuana” — is also considered to be extremely safe, contrary to what the government wants us to believe.
It’s so safe that it’s basically impossible for an adult human to ingest a fatal dose, although they can certainly make themselves feel very sick from eating or smoking too much. There’s every reason to believe that CBD extracts from hemp plants are as safe, or even safer, than psychoactive strains of cannabis.
In 2024, the World Health Organization declared CBD to be safe.
In 2024, the World Health Organization ruled that CBD is safe with no potential for abuse. Since that time, various global and national authorities have come to support the use of CBD. For example, while some athletes are still banned from using CBD, depending on the sport, the World Anti-Doping Authority removed CBD from its list of banned substances that same year, and the USADA followed suit in 2024.
It’s worth noting that the FDA doesn’t regulate CBD, though they do issue warnings to companies that blatantly break the law. Typically, these companies made outlandish claims about the supplement’s abilities. In late 2024, the FDA issued some guidance, including safety concerns about CBD. According to the FDA, more research is needed to definitively prove that CBD is safe. But it’s worth noting the findings of global authorities like the WHO, and the safe results found in the studies we outline below.
CBD oil studies find few side effects
Although the medical research is still in its preliminary stages, scientists have devoted considerable effort to proving that CBD oil is safe for human consumption.
A study published in 1986 in the International Journal of Neuroscience, examined the effects of CBD oil in 5 patients with dystonic movement disorders (muscle tremors and other forms of uncontrollable movements). CBD oil’s side effects “were mild and included hypotension [low blood pressure], dry mouth, psychomotor slowing [slowed thoughts or movements], lightheadedness, and sedation,” according to the study’s authors, Paul Consroe, Reuven Sandyk and Stuart R. Snider.
According to this study, CBD seemed to help people with their dystonia, but might have made some symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease (found in 2 of the study’s subjects) a little bit worse. However, other, more recent research has found that CBD can benefit Parkinson’s patients.
One study of 8 healthy volunteers and 15 patients with epilepsy, published in 1980 in Pharmacology, looked at the side-effects of CBD when consumed daily for a month. “All patients and volunteers tolerated CBD very well and no signs of toxicity or serious side effects were detected on examination,” wrote the researchers, who also found that CBD can help some people with epilepsy.
Consuming higher dosage of CBD caused no toxicity
In 2006, a group of researchers studying the potential benefits of CBD in treating psychosis and anxiety, looked at several studies of CBD oil’s safety and summarized their findings in a paper published by the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research. Noting that CBD safety was first proven through animal research, the scientists added:
“Therefore … the available clinical data suggest that CBD can be safely administered over a wide dose range.”
Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research
“Acute CBD administration by the oral, inhalatory or intravenous route did not induce any significant toxic effect in humans. In addition, chronic administration of CBD for 30 days to healthy volunteers, at daily doses ranging from 10 to 400 mg, failed to induce any significant alteration in neurological, psychiatric or clinical exams. Finally, in patients suffering from Huntington’s disease, daily doses of CBD (700 mg) for 6 weeks did not induce any toxicity. Therefore, confirming results from animal studies, the available clinical data suggest that CBD can be safely administered over a wide dose range.”
A 2007 study published in Phytomedicine found that CBD, along with other similar substances including THC (the main active ingredient in psychoactive cannabis), have potential as an anticoagulant, so people with who have diseases like hemophilia that cause problems with blood clotting should use extra caution with these substances.
Are there concerns about liver toxicity?
We wrote above that the FDA raised concerns about liver damage from CBD. In reality, this is an area where we need more research.
Thousands of people take CBD everyday without showing signs of liver damage and, as we write in this guide and elsewhere, a lot of research shows CBD to be very safe for human consumption even at very high doses.
On the other hand, a very limited amount of research suggests liver damage is possible at high doses of concentrated CBD. For example, a very small study (16 participants) showed that 44% of participants (7) had elevated values of some liver enzymes. It’s important to note that the dosage in these studies (1500mg of CBD per day) far exceeds the amount consumed by almost all CBD users. This would be the same as consuming multiple bottles a day of some lower strength CBD supplements.
For now, there’s still no reason to believe normal use of CBD supplements poses any serious risk to your liver, but when in doubt check with your doctor.
CBD, grapefruit and pharmaceutical drugs
There’s an unexpected connection between CBD oil and grapefruit, the citrus fruit that’s a popular breakfast choice. That connection? It’s possible that, like grapefruit, CBD could interfere with certain medications.
Grapefruit can actually interfere with the absorption of some common drugs, potentially resulting in unbalanced or dangerous levels of the drug in a person’s bloodstream. There’s quite a list of affected drugs, including some cholesterol-reducing drugs as well as some psychiatric medications. This connection is well known and, in most cases, your doctor would tell you if you need to avoid grapefruit. When in doubt, you can use a drug interaction checker online or check with your doctor or pharmacist.
The possible connection with CBD is less well-known, and also less well-established. However, some preliminary clinical research suggests grapefruit and CBD could affect the same enzymes, meaning CBD should be avoided with the same medications. However, it’s important to note that the clinical studies where this connection was found involve much higher doses of CBD than people typically take at home.
Even so, it’s better to be safe than sorry. If you’re supposed to avoid grapefruit, or you’re concerned about potential interactions, check with a medical professional before starting or continuing to take CBD.
An anecdotal look at CBD Oil side effects shows quality matters
Of course, since many of these studies have small sample sizes, and every person reacts a little bit differently to any substance, we looked at CBD oil users’ anecdotal reports, posted on popular online communities and forums, such as Reddit and sites that sell CBD products.
A handful of very sensitive people who use CBD oil report feeling mild mood and mind-altering effects, similar to a low dose of psychoactive cannabis, but these effects appear to be rare. Some people also reported mild digestive upset, including diarrhea, from ingesting CBD oil.
According to one post on Reddit, some people get headaches from using CBD oil, which is a bit unusual since CBD can also sometimes be used to treat migraines. However, other Redditors have suggested the problem was actually the purity of the CBD extract.
“I have just recently started taking CBD for headaches, and after three weeks of getting a worse headaches, I finally figured out that my CBD oil was cheap crap — and that a LOT of it is,” a Redditor named Pellquin.
The War on Drugs hurts cannabis & hemp research
Due to the the stigma associated with the war on drugs, free and open research into both hemp and its close relative, psychoactive cannabis, is only just beginning in many ways.
For example, the first study into the benefits of cannabis in veterans with otherwise untreatable post-traumatic stress disorder began in 2024, but only after the researchers struggled through years of red tape and put their careers at risk in order to do promote the need for this vital research. Fortunately, their work, and that of others like them, have begun to peel back the bureaucracy preventing scientific research.
On the hemp side of the equation, the 2024 Farm Bill fully legalized the growth and sales of agricultural hemp in the U.S., and the production of its derivatives like CBD oil. We hope this finally opens the way for research into the benefits and possibilities of hemp in all its forms. While this article summarizes some of what we’ve found from our research into CBD side effects, we expect to see a lot more research in this field in the years to come.

When it comes to CBD, purity & source matters
That redditor had it right: there’s a lot of poor quality CBD oil from unreliable brands. Some especially bad products may even include unexpected ingredients. The CBD oil market is still in its infancy, and it can be challenging for consumers to educate themselves except through expensive trial and error. When Ministry of Hemp investigated CBD oil purity and safety, we found a host of potential problems.
CBD oil is an unregulated market. Since hemp absorbs chemicals from the ground, including lead and mercury, growing conditions can make a big difference. Labeling of CBD products is also often inconsistent and unclear, making it confusing for CBD consumers to know what they’re buying.
When we interviewed Carlos Frias, founder of Green Lotus and a cannabis industry expert, he gave us three pieces of advice for buying CBD oil:
- Always ask for third-party lab results when buying CBD oil
- Pay close attention to product labeling
- Don’t hesitate to ask a more knowledgeable expert for help.
CBD is safe, but research before you buy & use
Overall, we found that scientists and doctors consider CBD oil to be safe for most people to use, and there are few, if any, serious side effects.
While everyone has their own unique body chemistry, it seems like the vast majority of people can ingest CBD oil without ever feeling any unpleasant side effects at all, and the remaining few will mostly likely experience only minor symptoms like stomach upset or dry mouth. Since scientists are using pure extracts from known sources, it’s likely that some consumer reports of headaches or other minor adverse reactions could be due to impurities in inferior CBD products.
As always, you should closely research the products you buy. Look for CBD oil reviews and other information on our site, or reliable websites like ours. And never hesitate to consult with a medical expert if you have any doubt about the best or safest way to use CBD oil.
You’re right in that the majority of articles about CBD Oil point out the benefits as opposed to any negatives. It’s nice to read an article about the side effects of CBD Oil. It’s even nicer to find out that over all, the side effects are minor and the benefits far out weigh a rare report of some discomfort. Apparently the quality of the CBD Oil plays a large role in side effects and that makes sense. It seems you get what you pay for in the CBD Oil market. Several findings from tests going back into the 1980’s and thru the early 2000’s seem to suggest CBD Oil is safe, but you should do your own research of the available products before you buy. Keep the knowledge flowing!
So can anyone make recommendations as to where to get the quality CBD oil? I have PsA and I’m at my wits end with this flare up. I just don’t know where to even begin to look or what to even look for.
Cindy message me.. I would love to chat with you about quality oil.
What do you know about the quality of zilis ultra cell
Can you help me too?
I have taken MSContin for about 15 years for kidney pain. When I changed doctors they suggested CBD oil which is legal in AZ. So while I was detoxing from taking less of the MS Contin I started the CBD oil in capsules. I had nausea and diarrhea which I contributed to the withdrawal. Both became worse. My doctor prescribed anti nausea medication. It didn’t help, nor did vaping THC. I stoped taking the CBD oil and in a day symptoms disappeared. I waited a few days and took a capsule and the nausea returned. I have been able to cut my MS Contin dose to less than half, still way too pain but am afraid to go back up or try CBD oil again. I was really hoping to stop taking morphine.
You can’t take CBC oil with any kind of an opiate. (like morphine)
Hi I’m on codiene why can’t you take cbd oil with it??
I have been taking 50 Mg daily CBD oil with morphine (MS Contin) for almost 5 months with no problems. I actually have been able to decrease my morphine dosage to 2 times a day instead of 3 due to considerably less pain. I have also stopped taking every oral prescription med except the morphine. My morphine dosage was only 15 mg 3 times which is considered low. I sleep better, feel calmer, am not cold all the time and I hope to be able to discontinue the morphine. I live in a state that has legalized marijuana so I hope to grow some low THC to harvest my own oil.
Hello I’ve been taking CBD Oil for quite a long time and I’m having intense itching at the roof of my mouth, coughing and asthma. Can this be due to the CBD Oil ?
Thanks
Could be due to an allergy in the oil it’s mixed with.
Matt. Great thing to check out. I cough for a couple hours and my throat feels itchy every time I take a dose.
What brands are you using?
Did y’all further discuss this? I recently started taking CBD Oil tincture from a well-known supplier and my throat is itchy after and I have to constantly clear throat. Frustrating!
Same here, Wanda. I love how CBD oil helps me with the pain and insomnia associated with 2 close-together car wrecks last year, but sometimes the stinging sensation in my throat keeps me up all night coughing and clearing my throat, which defeats the purpose!
I noticed since yesterday I’m itchy all over only taking it since yesterday would it be the cbd oil
That would be a very unusual side effect of CBD. Make sure you are using a good, quality brand and listen to your body (& your doctor’s advice), however.
With higher doses of CBD oil, I tend to get an all over “itchiness”. I usually just scale back the amount.
By higher doses, I mean 100 mg daily or more. The itchy feeling disappears within a few hours and there is no rash just itch. This effect is consistent across the board with brands and types including oils, vapes and isolates.
My friends do not have this issue with CBD so I assume it is me being sensitive.
Marijuana/hemp is a plant. You can be allergic to specific plants. Don’t discount an allergy to the plant itself rather than the oil it’s mixed with.
I began taking CBD to ensure I do not have another seizure..Although I hadn’t had a seizure it was because I use 2 of the strongest drugs available: Carbamazapine, and Lamotrogene. The side effects are decreased with time of use, but still occure. CBD helps with those side effects and I havn’t had more seizures. Positive herbal medicine!
How many drops do you take? I have partial seizures and I am looking for my “sweet spot.” Thank you.
I used CBD Oil from a reputable company and my pain was much worse. It may be good for most but some of us have issues with it. Yes it relaxed me, but after each use the pain the next day increased. so needless to say I stopped using it.
Rosie, sorry to hear you had this experience, but we appreciate you sharing it with us. Everyone and every body is different and it sounds like you did the right thing for yourself.
After using the cbd oil i started having chest pain in my right chest. even was put in the hospital over it thanking it was a hard attack. The pain spreed to other parts of my body. Thanking CBD oil was safe i did not give it much thought. I quit using it. And the pain ouit. Every time I tried it the pain came back. I gave some to my son and He had pain In The places as I had it. The pain was so sever that I could hardly breath. delt with the pain for 3 monts. Would have rather died than have to live with the pain. I know that everybody has a diffrent metabolism but just wondering if any body else had the same experance?
I had the same reaction with chest pains and pressure after taking the recommended dose of 10 drops of NuLeaf for 2 days. Once I stop taking it, the very next day, my chest pain subsided. However I will admit pain I’ve had in a healing broken foot subsided immensely.
@ Donna I’ve have been using products from a new company who teamed up with a biotechnology company who has been extracting oil and they have a proprietary extraction method that allows for nanotechnology. Meaning particles are broken down small enough to pass through your liver and you reap better results. I have been in chronic pain for different issues since an automobile accident and I must say since May I have not only been taking my oils buy I now putting hemp into my like with hemp hearts and hemp based shakes. Which is allowing me to get a balanced omega 3,6,9 and bunch of amino acids are body needs. Put hemp in your step and get healthy with out the hi. My name us Norina Lelii friend me on face book would love to educate more on this marvelous plant.
How much do you take. No markings on the dropper. I dropper full or 2? I have the Green Labs Cannabinol isolate 100mg.
Everyone is different, and everyone has different health issues to consider. We recommend starting small!
So if it passes through the liver, will it still help the liver (if a person has liver issues)?
I started taking CBD in a tincture to help with depression and anxiety, as well as to help balancing my hormones. So far it feels great, and my mood is much more positive. I do feel a lot of energy though, which is interesting because it feels similar to drinking coffee only it does not wear off or cause anxiety/anger issues. I am hoping it will continue to be effective.
My son just started taking CBD for same reason. He informed me yesterday that he seemed more hyper (more energy), does anyone know if this is common or where I can get more information on this? I’m giving him a low dose and I lowered it even more.
I am very interested and CBD oil for anxiety and depression I’ve tried the capsules and they did not work I do vape the THC oils occasionally so I can get some sleep but sometimes I get anxiety from it also any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Sonya,
I am looking for a CBD Oil that will help me with similar symptoms as you described. What brand are you using? I would like to try their product.
Thank you,
Judah
I had a ‘reaction’ after taking 4 drops ( in a capsule) at 6:30 and at 9:15 I became light headed and had a dry mouth. I wonder if I would get the same
symptoms if I took it a second time…say about 6 hour later. I believe I had some relief in my arthritic knees and would like to continue.
Hi Marj
I hope your journey with CBD’s has been beneficial. If you have arthritis in your joints “please” try Glucosamine Chondroitin with (or without) MSM (500/400mg). I had severe arthritis pain in my knees for over 25 years. I could literally tell you when the weather was about to change, how bad it would be and how long it would last….just from the pain in my knees! I was way more accurate than the local weather man. After taking Glucosamine Chondroitin for 2 months, I am no longer able to tell you anything about the weather because the pain is completely gone! At first I could hardly believe this could be true, that a herbal capsule could completely heal my arthritis. What upsets more is that none of the many doctors that i visited ever mentioned it!
I too am now trying CBD oil for pain from a spinal injury and no negative reactions so far and the benefits are incredible (no pain). What I wanted to share was that there are now so many ways to take CBD’s that if one doesn’t seem to fit or has negative side effects, try another delivery option. Also, I would try changing the supplier and purchase only the best product that you can find. I had a negative experience with one supplier where their product gave me a bad headache, I changed suppliers (little more expensive) and the headaches stopped.
I have got these headaches from Charlotte´s Web, what brand are you using now and what gave you those headaches? Thank you.
you got inebriated
I had arthritis in my knee for eight years before I was told by a friend to try cod liver oil capsules. I thought I would try one bottle for only $5 and if it didn’t help I would quit. After about a month the pain was much less. I’ve been taking it for over 5 years now and have very little pain in my knee. Before I could hardly walk.
I have a negative reaction to CBD the first time I took it and need to know how to determine whether it is the drug or the suspension. This article gives no info as to where to have our hemp products tested. My side effect feels like going cold turkey off an antidepressant.
Hi Sonya, Could you please tell me the name of the CBD oil you are using? I too have depression/anxiety and would like to try something else. Thank you very much! Autumn
I had major spinal reconstruction surgery – pain after surgery was intense with tge nerves coming back alive. I started taking cbd pm
So I could sleep – wow – I can sleep 6 hours pain free. I am using cbd drops during the day – 3 drops and no more narco. I am breaking
Out with a rash on my legs and feet. Could the cbd be causing the rash. I want to keep taking tge cbd – it works, just wonder if it can cause a rash as a side effect. Thanks for any info on the topic
I’m get ha back surgery as well and I tried the oil.. it helped yes! But I agree with the question regarding the rash.. although my hands feel on fire and extremely itchy!!!! Although the oil is keeping me off narcotics; is the itching from the cbd oil???
Hi Meg
I believe the itching could be from the CBD oil as i have heard this before but i have also heard that it can also be a reaction to the agent they mix the oil with. I too am taking CBD oil for pain from spinal surgery and no negative reactions so far and the benefits are incredible (no pain). There are now so many ways to take CBD’s that if one doesn’t seem to fit or has negative side effects, try another delivery option. Also, I would try changing the supplier and purchase only the best product that you can find or afford. I had a negative experience with one supplier where their product gave me a bad headache, I changed suppliers (little more expensive) and the headaches stopped.
I would stop taking the CBD oil you now have just to see if the itching stops. Next i would continue taking the oil for another week just to see if the reaction diminishes, if not, I would try another supplier.
Hi,I’ve been suffering with severe sciatica for two weeks now to the point I can barely walk, the doctor prescribed tramadol which I’ve been taking 3-4 times daily,I am also on 15mg warfarin,50mg Topiramate, perindopril and propanalol. My mum got me some cbd cream and drops in the hope to relieve some pain. My inr was very high this week 3.7,and I’m not sure if this is because of the tramadol or the cbd drops (taking 2 drops 2-3 times daily, cream 3 x daily). Can anyone offer advice?? Thanks.x
sara have you tried chiropractic? I’ve had sciatica and it took a few treatments along with stretching exercises but, it finally went away. i take only Advil when it gets bad but, also trying CBD now as well. Hope this helps
I know this is gonna sound hilarious, but I am actually researching for a friend. Seriously, I’m a nurse in New York. My friend, age 73 and suffering from end stage copd. He’s on oxygen and tells me his O2 level has dropped in the 60’s — very dangerous levels. He has passed out before. Anyway, he has been taking CBD about a month and has little effects (positive or negative). He is slowly increasing the amount but is now experiencing “bad taste” for the past three days. As one who has never smoked or ingested CBD’s, I’m at a loss. Any suggestions?
There is an article about how much cbd you should take on cbdoilusers.com. I am also learning and trying to find what amount suits me. They say you have to find your sweet spot. I’m on it for pain. They also have a list of good brands. Good luck to your friend, nice of you to help him.
I started taking CDB oil under the tongue a few months ago for pain. Seems to help BUT I have a terrible lingering after taste and a sense of smell as well. I quit taking it for or over a week and I still have the same smell and Ted taste effecffects. Now I can’t even smell my own perfume or coffee or bacon frying. It all smells and tastes just like the CDB oil. AND My coffee, ice cream, bacon etc etc all smell like the taste of CDB.
Is anyone else experiencing a change taste and smell.
Marsha
Marsha,
Your nose and taste symptoms sound similar to a smell disorder. Parosmia and Phantosmia sometimes can happen from colds or sinusitis. You could lose you sense of smell or start smelling things that aren’t there from damage to the olfactory nerve. Other possible causes are post concussion syndrome, temporal lobe epilepsy, and early stages of Parkinson’s disease and dementia. In any case, you should get this checked out with a doctor to rule out the serious stuff. I have been living with Phantosmia for seven years from a concussion. I use a pure CBD extract with no added oils – it does taste like crap so I put it in food.
I use cbd tincture with mint oil. It tastes and feels good! I tried the natural and I could barely stand the taste. It tastes like I just popped a breath mint. I take the 500 mg broad spectrum. I have had chronic pain for over 40 years and taken opioids for most of that time. Using cbd oil has caused me to be able to cut way down on pain meds. For example one of my meds was fentanyl patches I dropped from 100 mcg to 12 mcg in just 7 months! I had two good brands and one bad one. The two good ones were Hempland and sacred leaf.
I get headaches from it. Which do me a disservice as I take it for neck and shoulder pain. I feel good after taking it (usually), but next day I have a migraine as if I drank alcohol. Wondering if you need to drink extra amounts of water with this.
Hi Jennifer
I experienced the same thing with the first supplier I used. I purchased the oil based on the price….i no longer do that. I research the company and talk to them about their process and base my decision on the purity of the product.
Hi, I just started using CBD Oil (NULeaf) concentration 50mg/ml. I only took 10 drops sublingually (below tongue for 60 seconds) as suggested the first time round and had the same experience. I felt great within 30mins afterward, my shingles pains and joint pains/skin pain subsided almost 90% and brain fog (probably from sinus problems) lifted like a veil. I was so happy. Next morning I took 4 more drops as I had a slight headache (like a dehydration headache) by the afternoon I had a horrible migraine (which I haven’t had in 6months) and vomiting throughout the night. I stopped the CBD but for the next 2 days I still had headaches in the back of my head (like dehydration headaches). Now I feel very uneasy taking the oil again. I really want this to work, as the shingles related nerve pain is driving be crazy and my anxiety levels anyways are thru the roof. I am wondering if you’ve found a solution and are still taking the CBD. I will start again today with a 3 drop dose once a day and see if I can come up with a dosage that doesn’t cause me headaches and still do the job I intended it for.
mu husband tried this product and could NOT concentrate. He was the test dummy before giving it to out son who has crohns…..needless tosay have not given it.
Everyone reacts differently to CBD, but as we explain here, the brand and quality of the product can also make a big difference!
With so many options, how do we find a good and reputable company that can help with the dosage? I’d like to take for depression / anxiety and avoid anti-depressants.
Hi. I’m using CBS oil and I’m not myself this is supposed to be the best I bought it at th anti-aging wich only drs attended, since then I’m not my self ,I’m nervous ,didn’t help me with sleep ,made jumpi, and irritable. Honesty I won’t Recomended this to not body.
my brother took some of this for pain and caused severe mental episode and is now in jail, never had a problem like this before he is 54 this stuff is supposed to be tested i think? he bought it at a pot store. i would be very careful there is a lot of black market stuff sold at the shops with legal labels.
I have been using the oil for about 6 weeks and I think it is great, I am sleeping much better and all my aches and pains seem to have disappeared.
I have been taking CBC oil for about two weeks & for the last two days ,I am so blurrier eyed, I can’t stand it .I s this a side effect.
I tried CBD oil and cream for pain due to MS for the first time two days ago.
I also have insomnia, perhaps due more to pain than anything else.
After rubbing the oil and then the cream into the areas of spasticity that were painful enough to keep me in tears and awake night after night, the pain stopped and I fell asleep. I slept a full 10 hours, which hasn’t been possible in years. The next day I felt great. The second night I used it again and slept well again. However, felt tired, fatigued, and light headed.
Should I have any side effects from using this topically?
Regardless, I’m going to continue using it. The pain relief alone has been an amazing blessing for me.
Taking CBD oil for the last couple of months has greatly helped me with my anxiety issues as well as my insomnia. I would normally wake multiple times a night and feel absolutely exhausted every day. I would remember all the crazy dreams every night because I would be waking up so often it felt like I was living a crazy night life. I now only wake up once maybe twice and feel that I am getting a much deeper sleep. This has also helped with my anxiety issues. I continue to take a very low dose of an anti depressant but I do not have to take my xanax anymore. The only side effect I seem to have is that I feel a little ditzy and maybe not as quick with my thoughts (I believe called psychomotor slowing). But this side effect is worth the positive outcomes I have had. Overall I’m a big fan of this oil. Any time I can take less prescribed meds and take something more natural I am all for it.
How to sensibly buy LEGAL cbd oil? Because I got a letter saying customs has confiscated my package two times already and I’m pissed.
I’m on my second bottle of CBD Oil. I have back problems – wear and tear on my lumber spine – and I have a very stressful job, so I thought I would give it a try. I’m not sure if I am getting any benefit from it? I still have the lower back pain every day. I get a real strain in my lower back even if I have been standing too long (5 mins) I take Cocodamol 30/500 8 per day but I’ve tried tramadol, diazepam, everything, but nothing seems to help especially if I put my back out and I’m doubled over!
Anyway, it’s one o’clock in the morning as I write this. I just can’t sleep and I’ve been this way for the last few days. I thought CBD oil would help me sleep! I seem to have developed a pain in my right shoulder and neck now also!
I read loads of reports and reviews about CBD oil before I bought any so when I did I was hoping for a miracle cure and a good nights sleep to boot!
I’m working and I need to be able to focus and concentrate but I am now stressing that I will be going into work looking like I’ve been out on the town all night!
By the way, just recently, before I started taking CBD oil, I had a bad case of prostatitis and I was taking a 2 week course of antibiotics. My body is feeling a bit the same way as it did then – kind of jumpy and irritable and unable to sleep – I had hallucinations then – I don’t just now – just my body feels quite similar!
I’m sitting up in bed thinking ‘will I go and get some CBD oil and see if it helps me sleep!’ I’m also thinking, maybe it’s the CBD oil that’s making me feel like this! I don’t know?
As I said, I was hoping for a miracle cure but it’s not materialising yet!
Hi Patrick
I would try the THC/CBD oil combination at night to help you sleep. The THC helps me get the sleep that i need. I take the CBD oil during the day for pain and i take the THC/CBD oil combination before i go to bed and it helps with my sleep.

Anyone have experience treating psychosis with CBD?
Really interesting reading all of the comments. I started using hemp oil capsules about 5 weeks ago mainly to treat aches and pains. I feel though like i’ve been going slightly mad, this is virtually impossible for me to describe, although i’ve been extremely happy, jokey etc, like everyone in the world is my best friend, my mind though is not at all right, everywhere I’ve been including familiar places like my own home seem so different, I almost feel like I’m looking at myself from a distance, I wish I could explain it better but it’s impossible to do so. I’m just on another planet. I’ve had stomach problems and I’m really off food, I’ve always been a hungry guy but not at the moment. I’m sure this product is fantastic for most people but sadly it doesn’t seem to suit me, I took my last capsule this morning, it suddenly hit me that is was the hemp causing the change in me. I’ll see what happens in the next few days. best wishes to everyone, like I said, everyone is my best friend at the moment.
Reply to Gary Wilkinson about feeling like you are “going slightly mad”…
Are you using pure CBD oil or a CBD/THC mixture? Did your new weird “feeling like you are looking at yourself from a distance” and “not having your normal appetite” start five weeks ago (when you started this treatment)?
Did you change your dosage or the brand of your product along the way?
Are things improving for you?
How to sensibly buy LEGAL cbd oil? Because I got a letter saying customs has confiscated my package two times already and I’m pissed.
I have Bipolar Disorder and took a capsule of CBD oil. It sedated me for over 24 hours, then left me depressed. I’ve taken cannabis edibles with THC in small amounts and was very happy with it’s temporary calming effects, headache relief and helping with sleep. People with Bipolar need to be very cautious with CBD oil or medicinal marijuana – keep it i. small amounts.
Can cbd make you fail a drug test?
We are looking into CBD for my husband’s cancer treatments. Someone gave us some good quality CBD oil (Ultracell) so I tried it this am (one dropper full) and got SUPER dizzy and had to lay down and miss half of my day. Like crazy. Sounds like THC but it’s not supposed to have any?
Can this hurt my kidneys
My dog was diagnosed with liver damage and had jaundice. Nothing that the vets was giving her was working and I told the vet that I was taking her home, to live out how ever long she had left.
She would not eat and every time I tried to put food into her mouth, she would shake and tremble. It was heartbreaking.
Doing some research, I came across Milk Thistle and CBD oil. I got hold of some Milk Thistle and the results were amazing, however, she was still shaking and trembling whenever I tried to feed her.
I got some CBD oil from Hollands and Barretts (I am in the UK) and this did the trick. It calmed her down enough to make feeding much easier.
She has now made a full recovery. I do not know if it was the Milk Thistle, CBD oil or a combination of the two.
However, I have started to take the CBD oil. For twenty years, I have never slept properly, but now I am. Within two days, I started to sleep through without waking up numerous times.
My joints have never been brilliant and bending down to pick up things was difficult. This is now also easier for me.
I can actually say, since taking CBD oil, I am now feeling happy within myself, and I have not been able to say that for a long time.
I have been on this CBD Oil for 4-days now..It is the Ananda 300-mg….I take 1-dropper before bed…I am still not sleeping any better now I am having heaviness in my chest and just feel really short winded..I also am having a lot of sinus drainage..I do not know if I could be allergic to this stuff or what…I also have wheezing..Now I do have Asthma and wheezing but it seems more intense since I have started to use this..I started out on Charollett’s Web..So I don’t know what to do..Anyone else feel like this that already has Asthma thanks.
Hi Deborah,
I was scanning reviews to see if anyone else had my experience. I purchased and tried a full spectrum CBD oil called Zilis ultra Cell. I researched after purchase and found it was a pyramid system product. Which usually offer great products, but pricey because of their system. I found that my asthma after the 1st day, was not as acute and less wheesie. However, I also took a dropper full at night twice. Both times my body was hot flashing, full body sweat- waking me up at night. My bowel movements changed to diarrhea with a spot of blood for two days. My health issue is always my lungs. Lately antibiotic help was temporary. So I thought I’d try CBD. After more research, I may have exposed that my lung issue may stem from colon issues. Worse case for me at this moment as this happened in this past week,…I may be first stages of colon cancer. This was a healing crisis, I am better every day. My next step is to do a colon test to be sure and to proceed with healing. Not afraid, just concerned and pro-active.
I have had a headache since starting the drops..is it a coincidence?
I’ve just started using the THC/CBD drops under my tongue for acute pain as well as insomnia. I keep waking up in the night feeling nauseous with the taste of bile filling my mouth. Has anyone else experienced this? It really helps with the pain,,,but my sleep is interrupted with the nausea.
I tried using the CBD OIL, a hospital disabled me and it gave me a headache, and feeling jittery, I can hear my heart beating fast. Now the CBD I got was from the Ecig shop 30mg and the color is like tan, a golden color. I’m trying to get as much information about this as possible since it’s supposed to help you. I don’t want to be on all these medications.
75 YRS YOUNG, retired police officer. Bad back, neck, cranial surgery, prostrate surgery broken arm with picked nerve, 4 way bypass, can’t get a good night sleep. 6 weeks ago, My Primary care told me to get 100% pure CBD oil. My wife 65yrs, bad knees and back. Sleepless,a
Anxiety disorder. Same positive results.
Kit, I am on blood pressure medication and was advised by my Dr. not to take CBD oil for my anxiety and they want to prescribe an anti-anxiety drug which I would prefer not to take. That said I read it lowers blood pressure and maybe result in dizziness and maybe that’s why the Dr. does not want me on it, would love your opinion. Thanks
I’ve used the oil for two months. My hands and skin are itching badly and I’ve spent Christmas and Boxing Day being and feeling sick. It has reduced the pain and enabled more sleep but the price is too high if the side effects are due to the oil. I take other pain drugs with it. Wonder if these combinations may be the cause? Advice please?
I have gout, arthritis, and fibermialga. I use Horizen CBD oil before bed time every day and it makes my life easier to get by with no side effects to me. I am on 4 different medications with a list of side effects and I’m tired of taking a handful of pills every day!
Do you have results side effects any new study?
I just started taking CBD oil last night. I have always had a problem with burping fish oil until I started us Omega Red. I have already noticed with my first two doses of CDB oil that I am burping it really bad and it is awful. I have done it on an empty stomach and then ate and I also took it on a full stomach. Any tips on what I can do to prevent burping it.
So my sister uses the CBD oil and she said it gave her a sort of different kind of high that made her pour milk into a candle. Is this actually true because I’ve researched a lot about this and i haven’t found anything about it making you high.
Very interesting article Kit thanks, Its seem to be one area of the use of CBD oils that is not looked into as much and the side effects of use maybe glossed over but your post covers it off very well.
I wish people would indicate the names of the companies their trials with CBD.
that would be so helpful. I know not all CBD oil is created equally well.
I guess I didn’t expect immediate results but I got them! I thought like many other supplements that I’d need to be on it for 30 days to see any real effect. Not so! I have extreme anxiety, coupled with ADHD it makes me miserable. Our family therapist described it best the other day when she said “you seem like you are just trying so hard to get through each day”. I didn’t know anything about CBD and he advised NBHemp capsules because they do not contain THC and have all the certificates. I told this couldn’t work this fast but I looked it up and it can work within 30 minutes of taking it.
I’m a believer so far!!
I had CBD oil and after three days developed severe dry throat, and uncomfortable breathing.
I have stopped taking it. It’s two weeks now and the symptoms are still here. I do not recommend CBD. Not enough is being said about the side effects.
My son has been bed ridden for 8 months with ME.
He started to take cbd oil 3 days ago and his mood really improved – i was really hopeful that it might have helped him to turn a corner.
However last night he had a very bad night with stomach cramps and gas, diarrhoea and nausea.
Could the cbd oil have caused this? I really want him to continue, but obviously not if it is causing this side effect. He has decided not to take any today and his mood is low.
Might taking a smaller dose be a solution?
Thanks for any help
does the cbd oil make you feel hot?? I have been taking it for over a month and am feeling hot all the time and sweating profusely. its very uncomfortable.
I started yesterday. It works well I guesse I deffinitaly have less anxiety but yes I think it makes you Hot I do not know why but I have the same problem off and on. I used water solubal the first day when I went to the store the guy have it to me almost right away my anxiety went away. But I felt more hot. I also got a pre roll budzburn sour space candy. It’s a more isn’t sedate ing type. I can get active it’s not like super amazing for me but for my friend it is… when it wore off I had some nausea But I have been having that. She is having some wired chest feeling but it may be fine, it could just be the re emersion of anxiety. The smoke only lasts a few hours it seems, and like with anything when it wears off your problems come back possibly feeling worse because you just had however long without your problem.. so when it comes back that sucks. But the point of this post is to say, yeah I myself get slight hotflashes from it. The water solubal and the smoke. All my other issues really are nothing new. I do wish that one of the cbd dominant strands of smoke also would be more energizing. In my state you need a card to get most smoke. But some cbd dominant strands are in some stores. I have a need for one that is energizing uplifting and motivating while providing pain reliefs to help me get things done. I have been living with chronic nausea exhaustion. And not much motivation or umph not sure what is wrong with me yet but some of these things help. I have a person I know with a card and I tried some of the brain candy strand and that was awesome uplifting happy and motivating but I myself connot get that. And niether can anyone else without a card so cbd dominant strand with happy energetic feeling woul be great especially for manic depressive people who have no motivation on there own any longer
I have been sweating more than ever which in turn causes BO. I never had this problem before. Is there anything to treat this with without stopping CBD?
Hello- I’ve been taking a very excellent quality of CBD for several months. My specific pain issues are cleared up a 100%. But I do have a lingering headache all the time. I can barely take 9-10 mg of this CBD or I will end up with a throbbing head. It is hit or miss sometimes. I think I’m noticing if I take it with coffee the headache is worse. This particular CBD oil has clary sage, lavender and Passion flower in it for menopause. It has really helped my cycle as I am perimenopausal. But, why or why do I have a headaches? It’s not crappy CBD, I can promise you that. But, should I try another one? I love the ESO for my cycle. I’m so distraught. I have coccydynia and CBD has changed my life. NO MORE pain with sitting and working out. At the same time I don’t want to live a life of headaches either. Any suggestions?
The price of the product does not reflect it’s quality. Unfortunately, in the world of supplements, there are many unscrupulous companies. Just because it’s priced in the upper tier does not mean it’s upper tier quality. Look for companies that have third party testing and good comments and reviews. After much wasted money, I have learned that lesson. I hate hearing that herbal remedies are useless from people who’ve tried them, but don’t realize it’s the company that put in useless ingredients. Also, to the posters who report itchy mouth or other itchy side effects, my daughter is allergic to soy, even in trace amounts, her tongue, throat and the roof of her mouth start itching immediately and then her skin starts itching a few minutes later. I’m thinking that perhaps you are reacting to a soy oil carrier, or ingredient in the CBD, and not to the CBD itself. Perhaps a change to an olive oil carrier, or another type of product without soy, or lecithin.
This is to those who posted comments who had good initial results followed by (probably unrelated ) illness and /or diarhhea days later~ How do you know CBD is the cause of these side effects that occur hours and days later? Suffering unrelated gastric distress, fever, or diarrhea is more likely a bad reaction to something that was eaten, or a virus, or allergic reaction to an environmental cause. I think it is a pretty big leap to blame CBD in many of the above comments. CBD is so beneficial and more studies are concluding they’re real benefits and that side effects are minimal, it’s a shame to deprive yourself or a loved one of the relief from suffering because an unrelated case of diarhhea presented three days later!
Have you ever felt sick to your stomach after taking CBD oil?
I never have and I’ve been taking it everyday for almost three months
Sick in tummy and lighheaded, especially when active.

I find it helps with my anger, anxiety and depression. I am hoping it will help with my muscle weakness and inflammation but I feel I will have to stop taking it becasue of the side effects. I am simply looking for exceptional quality and ingredients. I am currently using Canntrust product and its carrier is MCT oil I believe. I could really use some advice. Since taking one 30 mg capsule per day the past 14 days I have started to have swollen legs
(knee to foot) and have had severe nose bleeds in my right nostril 5 of the past 9 days.
The nose bleed usually occurs between nine and ten o clock after the pill has been taking around noon. Can there be any correlation between starting the pill and the latter occurrences? (NOTE: I am a kidney transplant patient and have had open heart surgery and take a plethora of pills for those and diabetes as well.
My blood is now thin as a result of the pills being taken but it had been many, many years since I had just one nose bleed) Any comments back?
Hello. The same thing happened to me after taking this product: Manitoba Harvest Hemp Seed Oil Soft Gels. Lower legs swelled really badly, as well as my feet and ankles. The swelling in the lower legs has gone away mostly, but my feet and ankles remain swollen after about a week of no more pills. Could you please tell us how long it took for the swelling to go away after stopping your use of cbd? Or are you still continuing to use it in spite of the swelling. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Good to know that WHO released a statement with regards to CBD. Some countries might find it an alternative cure to diseases
there are side effects , I had them 50 years ago with Marijuana smoked and eaten, panic, anxiety, nausea dizziness. Recently I tried CBD starting with very low dosages from an established pharma recommended by Nurse Practicioner. On 1/5th recommended dose gradually increasing to 3/4th dose, there was no noticeable effect. However at 3/4 – 4/5 dose I began to have panic, anxiety nausea etc. I think I did try one dose at full recommended dosage before the side effects became too negative to ignore. A sibling reported a similar response to CBD. It was certainly NOT safe for us. I am glad that I approached it very cautiously in dosage and ignored nonsense promotion of the magical herbal medicine approach.
I’m 66 years old I’ve been taking cbd oil and hemp for about a month, feeling great! Then I had bad reaction tingling and numbness in my fingers and hands.. also my tongue felt heavy and numb. I didn’t realize this until I ran out of the cbd. When I started to take again I got the tingling and numbness in my hands. That’s when I realized it was the cbd… I really like the way the cbd helped with pain and the hemp for anxiety and depression. Please help I want to feel good without the pain… i still take the hemp but I stopped the cbd… Thank You!
I just started taking cbd oil and my mouth feels tingly ,will this go away ?

Why is it not mandatory to show the Percentage (%) of CBD in each CBD Oils, CBD Softgels or CBD Products.
Most people do not understand CBD milligrams (mgs) and certainly do not know what dose of CBDmgs to start with or to increase to.Everyone buys or drinks alcohol by the % of alcohol not by the mgs of alcohol.
Most suppliers are misleading CBD buyers by not increasing the mgs of CBD in the same proportion as they increase the the volume in the bottle or jar. I believe the honest approach is to show both the % of CBD alongside the mgs
My doctor suggested CBD oil for pain. I’m currently using Kentucky’s Best. I’m 72 years old, I’ve never smoked anything or tried anything. How do I know if it’s good CBD oil.?
Is Cbd likely to cause a tumour to swell in brain area? I have some which my naturopath said to take but I’m scared as no room to move?
I’m glad to know that a person can’t really overdose from consuming CBD products and if they do, the side-effects are just usually considered minor. This only means that it will be beneficial for my friend who has been eyeing this product for a long time now. I wonder if she’ll use it as a health supplement as you’ve mentioned.
I am relieved to know that there is no major side effect in us I g the nasal spray, and that it could be used as a daily supplement to threat my fibromyalgia.
People having sleep issue can use the medical marijuana edibles, cbd oil or other thing as a cure of it. Medical marijuana is helpful to reduce pain because of some chemical consist in it. I dont know the technical term but it helps and reduce the pain. Also it help to reduce sleep disorder.
Thanks for sharing a nice article…
I have read a lot of comments and reviews about CBD oil. So far, the outcome are good and they find it effective. To make sure that this product is good for you, you need to see and consult the expert first. Better be safe than sorry.
There is always a downside of everything when it is too much utilized. It would also be better to seek help from a medical professional if something wrong happens. Thank you so much for posting this. I learned a lot from this blog.
Anybody get nose bleeds from CDB oil. I do.
